A section of Rangers fans have shared their congratulations on Twitter after rising star Matthew Shiels revealed he’s agreed the terms of a new three-year contract.
The left-back revealed with a tweet on his personal account last night (Thursday) that the Ibrox academy product marked his 18th birthday by committing to a deal that runs until 2021.

As a Rangers boy through and through who joined the club aged eight, supporters are delighted that one of their own has been showed such great faith by the club with a three-year contract. It is a statement of intent from the Glasgow giants, something that has been a real feature of their transfer and contract negotiations this year. Shiels has come on leaps and bounds in the last year, making a big impact for Rangers Under-20s last season before getting his first taste of senior football with a League Two loan to Edinburgh City at the end of last season. The teenager has coped well with a new role after switch from his previous attacking role to a new left-back berth fairly seamlessly. There will now be hope from supporters that he can follow the same path as the likes of Ross McCrorie from the Ibrox youth set-up into the senior side.
