Celtic were among a host of clubs, including Premier League outfits Liverpool, Everton and West Ham, to jet out on a transfer mission for Red Star Belgrade’s home clash against Napoli in the Champions League, according to Scouts in Attendance.

The reliable Twitter account, who have established themselves as a reputable source of information about which teams have sent scouts where, claim that the Hoops had people watching on as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw on Tuesday.

The Glasgow giants, who are based over 2000km away (source: Google) from their Serbian counterparts, kick off their own European campaign at home to Rosenborg in the Europa League on Thursday.

Opinion

While the report does not make clear who the Bhoys might have been keeping an eye on, it seems unlikely they would jet all that way to watch someone from Napoli, who are likely to be out of their price range in any case. It would therefore be a wise assumption that Brendan Rodgers and his transfer team at Parkhead have their eye on someone from the Serbian side, who would definitely be much more in their bracket when it comes to agreeing a fee. The summer window has just closed but the Hoops are obviously eyeing up targets for the winter window, and it will be interesting to see if they have people at any more of the club’s Champions League games. They would not have to travel far if that were the case, with Red Star set to travel to Liverpool – Rodgers’ old stomping ground – towards the end of October.
