A section of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to slam Chris Brunt for his performance in the 2-0 win against Millwall at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The Baggies moved up to third in the Championship table, one point behind leaders Leeds United, thanks to second-half goals by Dwight Gayle and Kieran Gibbs, but that wasn’t enough for some fans.

Baggies supporters took to social media after the game to blast club captain Brunt, with one saying that the ex-Northern Ireland international was “woeful”.

OPINION

Brunt was nowhere near as bad against Millwall as he has been on other occasions this season, it just seems like the midfielder can do no right in the eyes of some supporters and they simply have to have a go at him. The 33-year-old has gone through a lot at The Hawthorns and he is probably as disappointed by his form as anyone. A lot of fans want Sam Field to play above Brunt in the midfield but Darren Moore has to be trusted because West Brom are now third in the table thanks to his leadership. Field obviously isn’t convincing Moore enough in training or hasn’t shown the progression needed from a youngster to start big games. Everyone knows that Millwall are a tough team to play against and the experience in the midfield probably was the right way to go. The game is over now anyway and the Baggies have won all three points. Just some fans don’t give up with the negativity.
