OPINION

Leeds United had to come from behind to earn a point against Millwall in a 1-1 draw at the New Den on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Harrison’s late equaliser managed to see the Whites cling on to the top spot in the Championship table after Jed Wallace’s 55th minute goal looked as though it would be enough to earn the Lions all three points.

There was plenty to discuss after the game and here, This is Futbol has rounded up three things learned about Leeds in their draw.

Cooper and Jansson must be starting partnership

The two most impressive players on the New Den pitch on Saturday were centre-backs Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson. They have been a regular sight together in the heart of defence since the start of last season, however Marcelo Bielsa’s change of tactics has seen Gaetano Berardi shifted to centre-back to Jansson’s expense. At Millwall, Cooper and Jansson started their first league game together of this season and were simply phenomenal, dealing with pretty much everything that the hosts had to throw at them. Even when Berardi is fit again, it’s hard to see how he can start after the defensive performance on Saturday.

Leeds wasted £4m on Roberts

With no Kemar Roofe and no Patrick Bamford, it was always going to be a tough ask for Leeds to get enough goals on Saturday and luckily Harrison was able to pop up in the dying moments of the game to get a vital equaliser. Tyler Roberts earned his first league appearance for the Yorkshire giants at Millwall and did very little to impress. The 19-year-old, who was signed from West Brom for £4million in January, was wasteful and barely had any impact on the game. While he wasn’t a signing that Bielsa made, the Wales international does not look as though he is able to suit the Argentine’s tactics and with his injury record also a cause for concern, he is starting to look like a flop.

First league defeat of the season is coming

Leeds are the only team in the Championship yet to lose a game this season and haven’t won in their last three across all competitions. The 2-0 defeat to 10-man Preston in the Carabao Cup was a poor result, followed by draws with Middlesbrough and Millwall. Add on top of that the growing list of injuries and it is very much looking as though the Whites could lose a game very soon. Leeds welcome Preston to Elland Road once against on Tuesday night and going by the last meeting between the two clubs, it could be North End who come out on top again.
