Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has been drooling over Tottenham’s Harry Kane ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Spurs ace is yet to hit his best form this season after an arduous summer, but that hasn’t stopped Thompson from waxing lyrical about a player he describes as “world class”.

The former Liverpool star has also compared Kane with Reds striker Roberto Firmino, and while he appreciates the Brazil international, he is nowhere near the level of the Spurs talisman.

“Roberto Firmino hasn’t yet reached his best this season and, while you could say the same for Harry Kane, he is one of the best forwards in the world,” said Thompson on the Sky Sports website.

“We all value Firmino and his work but Kane is world class. There have been discussions about Kane’s form and fatigue but you can bet on Saturday morning that he is going to be absolutely fired up for this game.”

OPINION

Thompson was raving about Kane in a combined line-up of Tottenham and Liverpool players and when picking his striker for the team, he had no choice but to pick the England captain. Kane is on another level sometimes and it is no shock that he is getting linked to Real Madrid on a regular basis. He is not in the best form at the moment but that could be down to tiredness after a tough season with Spurs last time out and a long World Cup in Russia. It did not help that he played both international fixtures over the international break and Gareth Southgate should have really rested him in the friendly win over Switzerland. However all managers have to play their best players. If they don’t and a result doesn’t go their way then questions will be asked of them. Kane will get a rest eventually, but it isn’t going to be in the next week with Spurs facing Liverpool on Saturday and Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.
