A section of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to tear into Wesley Hoedt for his performance in the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
Hoedt scored a bizarre own goal in the first-half to kickstart Liverpool’s routine victory, and it hardly got better for the Netherlands international after that.
Some Saints fans were furious with him on social media, with one saying that the former Lazio centre-back is “garbage”.
This is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets below:
Hoedt foot work shocking for first goal, Vastergaard missed timed his jump for matip goal, and the third they were all too slow to react to the free kick rebound. Just poor defending

Don’t understand what Hoedt has to do to get dropped. Two seasons of watching bambi on ice now

Actually no reason #saintsfc should be down 0-3 in #LIVSOU. Oh wait, Hoedt has been awful, cannot defend a set piece and no guts inside the 18… that'll do it.

Have you seen it? It's comical and typical of Hoedt. Yoshuda or Bednarek much better imo….#SaintsFC

OPINION
Hoedt had a complete shocker against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, but against a team with such amazing attacking players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, it was always going to be tough for the 24-year-old to play well. His own goal was slightly unfortunate. He had to do something otherwise Roberto Firmino would have had a tap-in, but you have to think that a better defender would have cleared that somehow. Southampton’s defence is quite a mess at the moment. They were never going to fill the void left by Virgil van Dijk but they haven’t got anywhere close to finding a solid replacement in Jannik Vestergaard. These Southampton fans may have been tearing into Hoedt but the Denmark international did not do himself any favours either really. The Saints must improve though. Wolves are up next and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side can cause some serious problems to Mark Hughes’ back-line.
