Rangers striker Umar Sadiq has refused to shut the door on a shock early exit from Ibrox as he speaks out about his future while on loan from Italian giants Roma.

The 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus forward arrived in Glasgow on a season long temporary deal from the Serie A heavyweights but has struggled to impose himself on the first team, with Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty Steven Gerrard’s preferred options to lead the line.

However, when probed about cutting short his loan spell, the 21-year-old insisted it was too early to judge whether it would be necessary for his career, but left the door open by stating he would see what would happen.

He told Supersport, as quoted by the Daily Record: “It’s too soon to talk about movements. I am here to play football and I know it won’t be easy, it’s a privilege to work with a living legend like Steven Gerrard.

“I’m working hard in training and we’re doing the right things. It’s just too early to talk about leaving, let’s see how the future turns out.”

Opinion

Sadiq might not have been drawn into saying too much about possibly leaving the club but he also failed to rule it out, hinting that he could well be frustrated with his game time under Gerrard so far. The young talent does have a serious battle to force his way into the first team, with Morelos and Lafferty both proven at this level, and it is no wonder the manager is picking them over the giant target man. However, with the Europa League campaign kicking off, the need for rotation could well see him picking up many more minutes over the coming months, satiating his desire to be playing regularly and taking the possibility of what would be a shock return to Italy off the table. The Rangers fan do not know how good or bad the striker can be, that is how little he has played, but they will be hoping to get a decent glimpse of what he can do over the next couple of weeks – otherwise, he could well be on his way back to Roma.
