Radamel Falcao has hailed Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos as a star-in-the-making who is the heir to his crown as Colombia’s top striker.

The Monaco striker and all-time great made way for Morelos to make his national team debut in Friday’s win against Venezuela and is in no doubt about the potential of the Gers spearhead.

Falcao said, as quoted by the Daily Record: “I think we can look back this week and be encouraged by the young talent that is coming through in Colombia.

“Alfredo Morelos is going to be a star for us. When you look at attitude he has and commitment he shows, he’s ready to get to the top.

“He could be a big player for Colombia for years to come. I liked his work rate and he’s willing to learn. There’s a lot to like when you look at the kids coming though.

“He’s already playing for his country at such a young age and it’s clear he will be a regular for years to come.”

OPINION

As an all-time great striker with a track record to die for, Falcao’s opinion of Morelos is well worth reading. He knows what it takes to deliver the goods on Europe’s biggest stages as well at international level. Falcao also knows a thing or two about expectations after once commanding a £51million transfer fee when he moved from Atletico Madrid to Monaco in 2013 (source: Telegraph). Morelos divides opinion in Scotland, even among Rangers fans, who believe he misses far too many easy chances for a player whose job it is to put the ball in the back of the net. His disciplinary record – he’s been handed two red cards this season, one of which was rescinded – is also pretty diabolical. Yet, Steven Gerrard is a big admirer of the 22-year-old and, like Falcao, regards him as a potential star. Rangers have put their trust in him, too, just handing Morelos a new contract that Football Insider report is worth £30,000-a-week.
