Former England international Darren Bent has revealed that he would love to join up with Steven Gerrard at Rangers as he seeks a new club.

The experienced 34-year-old striker left Derby at the end of his contract at the beginning of the summer after scoring 28 goals in 86 appearances for the club over a three-year spell.

Bent has now confirmed that he would be keen to join Rangers if given the opportunity, lavishing praise on the club in an interview with Jim White on Talksport.

When asked by White if he would consider joining the Gers, he replied: “100 per cent! You’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in football in Rangers. To get the opportunity to go up there and play – definitely!”

Over the course of his career, Bent has scored 211 goals with 106 of those coming in the Premier League.

OPINION

It is no surprise that Bent wants to join up with Rangers. The striker’s career has taken a nosedive in recent years and so the chance to join up with such a big club is obviously a no brainer for him. Whether the club would even consider the veteran striker is another matter entirely. The answer is most likely no, with Bent failing to impress in several seasons. In his prime Bent was a very good striker with a good eye for goal, and his record in the Premier League – 106 goals in 277 appearances – illustrates that well. However, his form has dipped massively in the past couple of seasons, and it is hard to see what he would add to this Rangers squad. This just looks like a fanciful idea raised by White, who is a well known Rangers fan, and will most likely come to nothing at all.
