Many Rangers supporters were left raving over the performance of goalkeeper Allan McGregor on Twitter after watching him play a key role in Scotland’s clash with Albania on Monday night.

The Scots played host to the Albanians in what was both the first meeting between the two sides on the international stage, as well as the home side’s first ever outing in the newly formed UEFA Nation’s League, and it was a pair of Steven Naismith goals which secured the win.

However McGregor, who replaced Celtic’s Craig Gordon from the starting XI against Belgium, also had a role to play, the six foot tall (source: Transfermarkt) shot stopper pulling off some impressive saves which had the Ibrox faithful delighted on social media.

This is FutbolĀ has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

McGregor was exiled from the Scotland squad for so long but this sort of display shows that they have been missing out on a top talent between the sticks. The Rangers fans are also right to be delighted, for their man is getting the national recognition he deserves after an impressive start to his second stint at Ibrox, and he was one of a few Gers players who came out with any sort of credit from their Old Firm defeat against Celtic last week. Of course, the Light Blues fans would rather see him starring for club over country, and at 36-years-old there may well be fears over him picking up an injury while on international duty. For now though, they should enjoy watching him outshine rival Gordon between the sticks, for there have been many occasions when a Rangers player has gotten the better of his Bhoys counterpart.
