BBC pundit Tam McManus has delivered a damning verdict on Celtic’s treatment of striker Leigh Griffiths, describing the situation as the ‘same story’ for the experienced star.

Griffiths came off the bench to score the winner for the Hoops in their Europa League opener against Rosenborg on Thursday night, but the Scotland international has started just three matches so far this term.

McManus has now delivered his verdict on the situation, retweeting an old article he wrote nine months ago about Griffiths not being given a chance at Parkhead, and claiming that nothing had changed for the senior star.

OPINION

While McManus does not say much really in his tweet, it is a pretty damning verdict from the former Hibs star. The fact that he wrote an article nine months ago about Griffiths not being given a chance at Parkhead, with the situation still remaining the same so far down the line is pretty telling. The veteran striker always seems to deliver for Celtic when called upon, and that was no different in midweek. In contrast, his rival for the starting striker position, Odsonne Edouard, has been failing to deliver all season. You would think that Griffiths will be given a chance up front soon by Brendan Rodgers should this continue, especially considering he has just been given a new deal by the club. This weekend’s away clash against Kilmarnock is a good place to start, but whether that will happen is another matter. Griffiths cannot do much more to press his case, and he must merely hope that Rodgers recognises that soon.
