A section of football fans have taken to Twitter to express their shock that Phil Neville has claimed Wolves are the “best side to ever get promoted to the Premier League”.
The pundit and England women’s manager put the top-flight new boys at the top of the tree following their 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Saturday.
“I think they’re the best side that has ever come up from the Championship,” Neville told Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night. “They’re brilliantly coached, Nuno has the balance right between defending with strength and numbers, and the attacking quality in midfield. They have spent money but they’ve got quality players.”

Many fans on Twitter disagreed strongly with Neville.

COMMENTARY:
Are Wolves better than the Stan Collymore-spearheaded Nottingham Forest side that finished third in 1994-95? Or the Blackburn Rovers team that secured fourth spot in their first Premier League campaign? Or the Newcastle United team that also finished third immediately after promotion? In all three cases, the answer is the same: definitely not. Sure, Wolves have started superbly and made a nonsense of predictions that Premier League survival should be their only aim. Nuno has assembled a team that play with ambition and style, and are easy on the eye. They have already prevented the two Manchester United giants from winning and have impressed in every match they’ve played. Wolves’ squad has yet to be tested, with Nuno able to field the same starting XI in all six league matches to date. They are certainly the best promoted side in many years, but would need to secure a Champions League spot to better the likes of Forest, Newcastle and Rovers from two decades ago.
#WWFC are doing brilliantly but six games in, 'the best'? You can't be serious Mr Neville? They're mid-table. Come back in May and let's see where they are. My #nffc finished 3rd in 94/95 & had biggest away win (7:1) & longest unbeaten run (13 games). That'll take some beating. https://t.co/w9KuA8joiG

He’s such a poor pundit. Definitely the worst on the #MOTD panel

This is just ridiculous. After 6 games to make a comment like that. Forest finished 3rd 94-95 season. You can’t say best ever to come up after 6 bloody games. Christ almighty #MOTD2

Blackburn finished 4th in their first Premier League season. Does he reckon Wolves will top that?!

I’m now googling and seeing that so fair play. To be honest I was just irked by Neville’s over blown nonsense. Knee jerk tweet.

How does Phil keep down a job at the BBC? Or anywhere for that matter.
