Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kenny Miller has waxed lyrical over midfielder Ruben Neves but warned Nuno that splashing the cash is not certain to bring glory to Molineux.

Miller – who scored 52 goals for the club between 2001 and 2006 – believes that the 21-year-old Portuguese magician has hit the ground running at the club since his arrival from Porto last summer, but reinforced the fact that spending big on players is never going to guarantee success on the pitch.

However, he has raved about some of the goals that the 5’9″ (source: Transfermarkt) Portuguese international scored last season, but he also heaped praise on the entire team, branding them as the “real deal.”

“They have been up and down a few times since I played – but they look the real deal at the moment. I know they have had some heavy investment in the team over the last few years but it doesn’t always guarantee success,” he told the Express and Star.

“Ruben Neves looks like an outstanding player and again, he was bought for a good chunk of money, but that never guarantees (success). He very much hit the ground running last year, some of the goals he scored were absolutely outstanding, and again he has carried it again into this season.

“They have got an exciting group of players, when you come off the back of a really successful season, you look to just maintain that going into the next season and they have done it.”

OPINION

Wolves have very much looked like they mean business upon their return to the Premier League this season, and they have certainly shown that they are not to be underestimated based on their recent results. Their 1-1 draw with Manchester City was an incredible result for them, and for some parts of the game, it looked like that they would be able to sneak the win with their promising attacking player. Nevertheless, Miller is right to drool over the team, especially Neves. He has been outstanding of late, and he has evidently been their stand out player recently. His current form even earned him a call-up to the Portugal team, where he arguably impressed in their UEFA Nations League matches. Wolves have a huge chance to stay up this season, and based on their current form and crop of players, there is no doubt that will happen – and Wolves’ fans will have their fingers crossed for the same.
