Tottenham fans slam Davies v Watford

|

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first loss of the Premier League season as Watford came from behind to win 2-1 at Vicarage Road on Sunday, and some fans have been quick to slam Ben Davies for his poor display.

Tottenham opened the scoring in the second half as Lucas Moura’s pull back was put into his own net by Abdoulaye Doucoure, before Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart scored headers to give the home side the win.

Many fans have been quick to criticise Davies, who earns £60,000-a-week [Spotrac], for his display against the Hornets as the Wales international failed to impact the game at all on the left flank.

OPINION

These Tottenham fans have been quick to criticise Davies for his display, and you can understand why. The Wales international put in an average display against Watford, with his delivery into the box being particularly poor. Davies also struggled to get into dangerous attacking positions, and failed to take the ball past his opposite man once. To be fair to him, his defensive performance was decent, but that has always been Davies’ strong point. Counterpart Danny Rose has always offered more going forward, with his extra pace and direct running causing far more problems to opposition defences than Davies is able to. Injuries to Rose in recent seasons have allowed Davies to establish himself as first choice left-back at Tottenham, but if he keeps on putting in displays like this, then Rose will surely be handed the chance to claim that spot back in the near future. Improvement is needed from the Welshman.
