Stuart Pearce has suggested another future star of the first team could be about to graduate from the Tottenham academy.

Speaking on the Jim White Show on talkSPORT, the former England Under-21 manager claimed the negativity surrounding Spurs following three consecutive defeats is unwarranted.

He claimed the club’s failure to secure a senior signing in the summer window was not a big deal and that it gives the opportunity for the club’s outstanding youngsters to follow Harry Kane and Harry Winks from the academy into the first team.

“Just relax a little bit and see the greater good that is going on at that club,” said Pearce of Spurs on talkSPORT. “I look at Tottenham and the fact they didn’t spend anything in the transfer window, I don’t see that as a massive negative.

“There’s somebody here that might just pluck another Harry Kane out of the academy, or a Winks. To give them an opportunity. That is a major plus for me.”

OPINION

Spurs’ academy has been renowned as one of the best in the business for some time. Under the shrewd tutelage of academy director John McDermott, the club have produced some outstanding players in the last decade, many of whom have flourished in their own first team, and others who have carved out top careers at other clubs. The two Harrys are the shining examples of those who have made it after learning their trade in the youth-team ranks, while the likes of Nabil Bentaleb, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, as well as Danny Rose, who joined from Leeds United in his mid-teens, have also played plenty of matches for the senior side. First-team manager Mauricio Pochettino has an excellent track record of developing young players, although the well has run a little dry in the last 12 months following Winks’ breakthrough. Spurs have also lost a few of their top teens in recent months, with Reo Griffiths and Keanan Bennetts quitting for Borussia Mochengladbach and Lyon this summer.
