James Morrison will play for West Brom’s Under-23s against Reading tonight (Friday) as he continues his recovery from a groin injury, according to Express & Star reporter Matt Wilson.

The reliable journalist has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Morrison, 32, will feature for the Baggies’ reserves side, having failing to have earned a senior appearance since last month due to a groin strain.

Morrison has made five appearances in all competitions for the Baggies this term, which is only one shy of what he managed to achieve in the whole of an injury-ravaged season last time out.

OPINION

Morrison has had major issues with injuries over the last year and with the first team in such good form at the moment, it is going to be tough for him to get himself back into the side. Jake Livermore, Chris Brunt, Gareth Barry and Wes Hoolahan all appear to be above him in the pecking order to play in the centre of midfield while Harvey Barnes’ form in the attacking midfield role means that Morrison will struggle to play there too. It is a shame to see the former Middlesbrough ace constantly on the sidelines. He is a fan favourite at The Hawthorns and the club’s longest serving player. His contract is up at the end of the season, meaning he will have spent 12 years with the Baggies. He is certainly due a testimonial next summer, alongside club captain Chris Brunt who was signed just after him in 2007.
