Tottenham have been handed a major boost as injured attacker Erik Lamela has returned to training, it has been confirmed.

Spurs released an update on their official Twitter account on Thursday afternoon that showed Lamela working out at the club’s Hotspur Way headquarters in Enfield.

The Argentina international was joined in the training session by fellow attacker Lucas Moura and central midfield duo Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks.

It is a huge boost to Tottenham that Lamela is making good progress in his recovery from the injury that forced him to miss the club’s two most recent matches, against Watford and Manchester United. Lamela had been due to be on the bench for the 3-0 win at Old Trafford but pulled out after pulling a muscle during the warm-up. Spurs supporters have had to get used to the absences of Lamela in the last few years, but he is a key member of the first team when fit and firing. His touch, ferocious work-rate and ability to combine the play add a different dimension in final third of the pitch. The Argentine’s statistics are also better than many of his critics give him credit for – 23 goals and 39 assists from 155 matches for the London club. Lamela can challenge for a starting spot against Liverpool if he is able to proven to Mauricio Pochettino and staff that he is fully recovered from his recent physical issues.
