Southampton have had a promising start to the Premier League after registering their first win of the season over Crystal Palace last weekend.

However, there is one player who stood out from the rest recently, and that is winger Nathan Redmond.

The 24-year-old speedster has always shown signs of promise, but it was only until recently that he began to show everyone what he is really about.

In the Saints’ recent Carabao Cup win over Brighton a couple of weeks back, Redmond – who is on £60,000-a-week [Spotrac] – was easily one of the strongest threats in the side that defeated their South Coast rivals 1-0.

During that fixture, the young flyer caused the Seagulls all sorts of problems by tearing down the left flank time and time again, causing problems for the relatively inexperienced defence that Chris Hughton fielded.

He caught Brighton’s left-back out of position too many times, and his pace will be absolutely vital to Mark Hughes’ men this season, and he will propel them to another level if he maintains this type of form.

Against Palace last Saturday, Redmond caused the same type of problems to his opponents’ defence just as he did against Brighton, and he was arguably the best player on the pitch that day if Danny Ings had not scored.

Southampton are lucky to have a player like Redmond on their books, and he will only attract the attention of bigger clubs if he continues this form.

Saints’ fans will undoubtedly get excited by the prospect of a reignited Redmond, and he will definitely be a major factor to their survival in this campaign.

He will be earning himself an England call-up sooner rather than later if he carries on impressing, and that would only see his confidence soar even more as a result.

Southampton may have faced a relegation dog fight last season, but they will most certainly not this season now that Redmond has found his form.
