Optus Sport pundit Don Hutchison has claimed that Tottenham don’t have the strength in depth to win the Premier League.

Talking ahead of their Premier League clash with Brighton, the former Liverpool star claimed that striker Harry Kane is “jaded” and that Pochettino doesn’t have enough quality players in his squad.

“I’m looking at Harry Kane and he looks jaded,” Hutchison said on Optus Sports.

“He looked half a yard short and I don’t know when he’s g0ing to get his rest – they’re trying to play him through it at the moment.

“It’s at periods like this when you’re going through a tough time you need quality.

“You need a bigger squad for when players are injured, suspended or suffering from fatigue, that you can go into that eleven and make a difference.

“I don’t see it in this Tottenham side. You can’t win the Premier League with Eric Dier and Harry Winks in central midfield. You need better players if you’re going to go the difference.”

OPINION

This seems a bit harsh. Eric Dier is an England international who offers versatility for club and country. Harry Winks has looked sharp since his return from injury and could easily go on and fulfil his potential as one of England’s most talented midfielders. Harry Kane is definitely not on top form, however, and that’s a real problem for Tottenham. They don’t have a back-up for when he’s not scoring, despite Lucas Moura looking like a player transformed. However, Kane won’t stay in his slump for long and when he starts scoring again, Tottenham will start moving up the table. Do they need more players? Absolutely, and not signing anyone over the summer was a mistake that’s led to them trailing both Liverpool and man City this season. However, Pochettino has always talked about a long-term project at Tottenham and leaving rivals Arsenal in their wake is a step in the right direction. They need trophies next but we think they can win them with both Dier and Winks in the squad.
