A section of football fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter after Danny Murphy claimed on talkSPORT that Tottenham youngster Harry Winks is the best all-round player he has seen.
Speaking on Jim White show on Monday morning, the former midfielder made the extraordinary claim about the Spurs fringe player in a discussion about playmakers capable of running the show for England.
“The one who I think has the capability more than anyone else I’ve seen in Winks,” Murphy said. “He’s got a confidence and an ability to play, see the passes, get his foot in and be disciplined.
“He’s got to get fit and get in the Tottenham team first and foremost. He’s not going to be Gazza, but he’s one of the best I have seen in terms of his all-round ability.”
"Winks is one of the best I have seen in terms of his all-round ability."

COMMENTARY:
Twitter went into meltdown in the aftermath of Murphy’s extraordinary and hyperbolic claim about the Spurs youngsters. Winks has barely played in 2018 after suffering form and fitness issues, including an ankle injury that sidelined him for around five months. He looked the real deal in the closing months of last year and was rewarded with an England cap, but to described the 22-year-old White Hart Lane academy product as the answer to the national team’s ills is at least three steps too far. As it stands, Winks is way down the pecking order for his club and has been given just six minutes of senior action this season. Can he force his way past Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko before putting himself in international recognition? That is a big ask, although Spurs’ intense forthcoming schedule should present plenty of opportunities.

He’s not a game changer at international level for god sake at best solid PL squad cover – I do despair about the quality of pundits we have in this country almost as bad as the standard of refereeing!

Completely agree. Most on here who are laughing didn’t watch winks control the game against Madrid last season. However I also think Maddison is an excellent player. Winks plays deeper tha. Maddison
