Tottenham are ready to offload Mousa Dembele for around £10million in the January window, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the “word on the football beat” is that Chinese Super League side Beijing Sinobo Guoan are preparing to hand the  Belgium international a hugely lucrative final pay day.

The Mail report Dembele is in line for a deal worth close to £200,000 per week, and Spurs could also receive a £10million fee if they offload him in January ahead of his contract expiring next summer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Not really. When Dembele is on song, so are Spurs. The midfielder was handed a fifth consecutive start in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brighton, a bigger than expected workload for a player who was expected to leave over the summer and has suffered from chronic foot and ankle problems in recent years. The Belgium international has had some below-par displays this season, most notably in the recent defeats to Liverpool and Watford, but his power and composure in the central acres make him invaluable, especially with Victor Wanyama hit by knee problems that have robbed him of the last year of his career. Spurs are a far better team with Dembele than without.

Likely to happen?

With Dembele out of contract next June, and set to turn 32 a month later, he is clearly in the final stages of what has been a glorious career at Spurs that began in 2012. He has been a brilliant player in the team’s transformation into Champions League regulars who are respected across Europe. A January exit is not inevitable, but certainly highly likely.
