Aston Villa want Leicester’s transfer guru Eduardo Macia as their new director of football, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon, the Sun’s transfer expert, made the claim on Sunday morning on his personal Twitter page.

He added that this wouldn’t be a great sign for manager Steve Bruce, who is know to want control over the club’s transfers himself.

OPINION

Aston Villa had a fairly fast start to the season but have now dropped into mid-table after their loss to Sheffield Wednesday. However, the Championship is setting up to be the tightest it’s been for a long time, with just five points separating Villa in 13th from top-of-the-table Leeds. This move could seriously rock the boat. Steve Bruce wants to keep control over Aston Villa’s transfers and a move for Macia would obviously change that. It is an ambitious move though. Macia has been hailed for his savvy business since taking the job at Leicester after the Midlands club stunned the world by winning the Premier League. ESPN reported that West Ham and AC Milan wanted to bring him in over the summer and it’s questionable whether Macia would move down a division to take over the reigns at Villa. This story has been building momentum for a while now though, with Villa chief executive Christian Purslow keen on the move.
