Tottenham star Dele Alli is facing up to a month on the sidelines after breaking down in training on Friday, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the England international has suffered another hamstring injury just a week after returning from a previous muscle problem in what is a shattering blow to club and country.

The Sun report Alli is facing another extended period out, starting with Spurs’ Premier League clash against Huddersfield today as well as the Champions League fixture against Barcelona next Wednesday and home clash with Cardiff next Saturday.

OPINION

Questions must be asked of Tottenham and whether they rushed Alli back into action after he returned to action in last Saturday’s Premier League win against Brighton. The attacking midfielder claimed in midweek that he is not tired and denied he was feeling the effects of the exertions of a heavy schedule, including England’s extended stay at the World Cup. “We know our bodies better than other people and the coaching staff here, as well, put in a lot of work,” Alli said. Well, the latest injury strongly suggests mistakes have been made, from the player and the Spurs medical and coaching staff. A second hamstring injury smacks of negligence from the club and poor decision-making. It also suggests something has gone wrong with the club’s recovery plan for one of their key first teamers. There is no doubt Alli will be sorely missed over the next month. He is a key player and is one of their most frequent goalscorers.
