Liverpool have been hit by another attacker injury blow as Rhian Brewster has been ruled out until December, according to the Guardian.

The newspaper claim the forward, 18, has taken longer than expected to recover ankle ligament damage sustained in January and he is expected to be out for another three months.

This comes after Brewster’s fellow attacker Adam Lallana pulled out of the England squad with a groin strain, although he hopes to be back playing again later this month.

OPINION

For a player who has yet to make his senior Liverpool bow, there has already been a lot of noise around Brewster. He is a hugely excited talent who many good judges claim can become a first-team star at Anfield as well as a full England international. The teenager came close to leaving Merseyside in the summer amid strong interest from Europe’s elite clubs, but eventually committed to a long-term contract in a move that delighted the Liverpool hierarchy. It is a huge shame that he has suffered a setback in his recovery from ankle surgery, especially as Jurgen Klopp has made it clear to the youngster he is part of the first-team rather than academy squad. But Brewster’s time will come and it is better that his recovery is not rushed, however frustrating it must be for him to be sidelined just as he is looking to unleash all that youthful potential. He could be a big weapon for the senior side in the new year.
