Everton limped to a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon, and there were plenty of talking points to take away from the game.

Philip Billing had given the visitors a surprise lead in the first half when he rose to head home a corner, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin replied for the Toffees almost immediately with a header of his own.

Neither side could manage another breakthrough in the second half as Everton were forced to settle for a point, leaving them with six points from their first four games under Marco Silva.

This is Futbol have picked out three things we learned about Everton v Huddersfield below.

Zouma is the real deal

Kurt Zouma has had a frustrating time in the Premier League so far, with the France international breaking into the Chelsea first-team before being struck down with a nasty knee injury. A loan spell at Stoke last season was relatively successful, but he found himself loaned out again this summer as the Toffees snapped him up. That could end up being a masterstroke from Marco Silva, with the 6ft 3in colossus [Transfermarkt] putting in a commanding display at the back on his full debut. Zouma’s class has always been evident, and hopefully this is the season where he really comes into his own as a Premier League performer.

Average Walcott returns

Theo Walcott has impressed with his goalscoring form to start the season, and the Everton faithful had hoped that he would continue that form into this one. That did not happen however, with Walcott looking largely anonymous against a Huddersfield side that were there for the taking. That kind of inconsistency is something which has dogged Walcott’s career so far, and it unfortunately shows no sign of going away any time soon. His day was brought to a premature end on 57 minutes as Silva introduced Ademola Lookman, and the presence of players like the young winger will mean Walcott needs to raise his game or end up on the bench.

Digne shows his quality

One of the areas of most concern for Silva over the summer was finding a new left-back, with club legend Leighton Baines approaching the end of his career. The Portuguese ended up looking to Barcelona and France international Lucas Digne, who arrived in a big-money deal from the Catalan giants. Digne has had to be patient to get his chance at the start of the season but the left-sided flyer impressed hugely on Saturday despite the disappointing result. His extra pace down the left will give the Toffees an extra dimension in attack, and his delivery into the box looks solid.
