Former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit has been left in awe at the height and presence of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he tips the striker for greatness.

The 21-year-old hitman has established himself as a regular in the Toffees first team, most recently featuring against West Ham in an unfamiliar wing role in what was his 60th appearances for the club.

Speaking about the 6’1″ tall attacker (Source: Transfermarkt), Carragher insisted he was destined for the top and that his physical build meant that he was well suited to the challenge of the Premier League.

He told Everton’s official website: “I like Calvert-Lewin a lot, too. He has a great presence. I saw him in town and had a picture with him, I was looking up to him, the size of him!

“He was in that team that won the Under-20 World Cup, along with Kenny, and he has done very well, a great signing for Everton. I think he has a great future.”

Opinion

Calvert-Lewin is without doubt one of Everton’s most exciting young talents but Marco Silva has to realise that he is wasted out on the wings. His size makes him an imposing presence in the box and it should be other players trying to feed him the ball to score, not the other way around. Still, that is what happens when you are a youngster and he will have to try and push Cenk Tosun out of the centre forward role any way he can if he wants to be the main man up top. It seems strange hearing a Liverpool icon raving over the talents of an Everton man but it goes to show just how impressive the Toffees’ development of young talent has been over the last couple of years. They have plenty of starlets waiting to break through and make their mark on the first team, just as Calvert-Lewin is doing right now.
