Arsenal are in talks with Boca Juniors to sign Argentina star Cristian Pavon, according to Football London.

The Trinity Mirror site claim newly-appointed Gunners head of football Raul Sanllehi is spearheading negotiations for the winger as he turns his attention to the January transfer window.

Football London report Arsenal are looking to take advantage of the former Barcelona man’s extensive contacts book, especially in the south American market.

Good move for Arsenal?

Yes, definitely. Capped 11 times by Argentina, Pavon secured a place in the side’s World Cup squad despite intense competition for the attacking places. He has caught the attention of a host of European clubs after a string of impressive performances for Boca Juniors, where he has scored 25 goals and supplied 29 assists in 88 matches. Operating predominantly from the right flank, Pavon is a speedy and tricky forward capable of cutting even good defences to ribbons. Arsenal have lacked something from the right since Theo Walcott’s departure in January and Pavon could light up Emirates Stadium.

Likely to happen?

While Boca are keen to hold on to their prized asset, the club have recently confirmed Pavon does have a release clause in the contract he recently signed. It appears the deal was partly a device to maximise his market value. Arsenal face competition for his signature but a January deal is certainly a possibility.
