John Barnes has claimed that Lucas Moura’s deadly run of form for Tottenham has left Harry Kane “upset”, as criticism continues to be fired at the England captain for his apparent drop in form.

Many have suggested that Kane is in desperate need of a rest after an underwhelming start to the season.

However Liverpool legend Barnes has an alternate theory and suggest that Kane’s rut is down to how well his Spurs team-mate Lucas is playing.

“I don’t see how he can be tired, there’s only five games gone,” said Barnes, as shown by beIN Sports’ official Twitter account on Tuesday.

“I think the way that Tottenham are now playing, Lucas Moura coming in has upset Harry Kane.

“When Harry Kane played well he had Alli, Son, Eriksen behind with the two wing-backs.

“Lucas Moura has come in and he has done quite well, here’s Harry Kane still scoring goals, but Lucas Moura has done well individually, but I think that has upset the form and the way they play.”

OPINION

Everyone has been talking about Kane over the last few weeks. Yes, he played a lot of football in the World Cup and his form for England in Russia definitely dropped off after the group stages, however that was now a few months ago and like Barnes says, he has not played in many games since. Kane is not tired. His ‘August curse’ has been well document until be broke it this year, so it is not unlike Kane to start a season slow. Players like Christian Eriksen have also been poor form for the North London club and without the Denmark international creating the chances, Kane is not going to get as many opportunities to score. Lucas is in a hot run of form at the moment. If the Brazil international wasn’t playing, Kane would have probably scored more. Mountains are being made of molehills when talking about Kane, as they always are when the England captain is concerned.
