Nottingham Forest have suffered an injury blow with striker Daryl Murphy ruled out of Wednesday’s clash against Sheffield Wednesday after a setback.

Forest head into the clash on the back of a 0-0 draw against Swansea at the weekend, with Aitor Karanka’s men sitting in 15th in the Championship table after seven games.

Striker Murphy was expected to return from a calf injury against the Owls but will not be risked after feeling pain again, with Karanka confirming the news in the pre-match press conference.

BBC Nottingham Sport quoted the Forest boss on Twitter:

OPINION

This is a big blow for Forest heading into Wednesday’s match, with Murphy a key man for them up front. Karanka’s men have struggled for goals so far this season, netting just eight times in their first seven games, and Murphy’s return would have been very welcome in attack. The Republic of Ireland international has already netted twice in three games in the Championship for Forest this season, with the 35-year-old adding another to his tally in their League Cup win over Newcastle United. His absence was notable against Swansea at the weekend, and he will be a big loss for them tomorrow against the Owls. Their opponents will be coming into the match with some decent momentum, with a late equaliser securing a point for them last time out against Stoke. The Owls currently sit in ninth in the table after some decent results to start the season, and Wednesday’s clash is sure to be an interesting one at the City Ground.
