Aston Villa have struck a deal which will see Ross McCormack join A-League side Central Coast Mariners on loan for the rest of the season, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper claim that the 32-year-old forward is set to link up with his new side next week ahead of the start of the season, which begins in October.

The Mail report that there are still a few small details to be agreed between the clubs but the deal is expected to go through soon enough, with the 5ft 9in [Transfermarkt] McCormack returning to Australia where he spent some of last season on loan with Melbourne City.

Good move for Villa?

Yes.

McCormack has been deemed surplus to requirements by Steve Bruce at Villa Park, and any deal which sees him leave the club is a good move.

The Scotland international is a talented player, but his attitude and work-rate are not up to standard, and that has seen him cast out at Villa Park.

The 32-year-old is also on quite hefty wages at Villa, and offloading some or all of that pay packet will be a bonus for the club.

Likely to happen?

If this report is to be believed, then this one should go through soon enough.

The A-League season starts in October, so now would be the perfect time for sides there to make new signings in order to get them up to speed.

With just a few fine details to be ironed out, expect this one to be announced in the coming days.
