Swansea winger Barrie McKay has claimed that he does not have a point to prove ahead of facing his former club Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The 23-year-old made the switch to Forest in 2017, but once new boss Aitor Karanka took charge, he fell out of favour and was condemned to a long period of time on the sidelines.

However, ahead of the Swans’ clash with their Championship rivals this weekend, the 5ft 8in [Transfermarkt] attacker has admitted that he does not have a point to prove to his old employers if he is selected to feature.

“The first six months at Forest went really well for me, but I struggled a bit over the last six. It was tough to go from playing every game to not really featuring at all. The manager brought in his own players and had different ideas, but that can happen in football,” he told Swansea’s club website.

“But I don’t really feel like I’ve got anything to prove to Forest. I went there and felt I did well for them. I’ve still got a lot to prove to the manager and fans. It’s up to me to prove my worth [at Swansea] rather than thinking about the past.”

OPINION

McKay was unlucky to have fallen out of favour once Karanka took charge of Forest, as he proved he was an important player for them before he was appointed. He was a regular starter in the team, so it must have been hard for him to suddenly go without playing games. However, he is right in saying that he does not have a point to prove if he is chosen to feature in the clash with his old club. As far as he is concerned, he did well for them, so he is right to feel that he does not need to show them what they are missing. A lot of players would feel the need to prove a point to their old club once they join a new one, but not McKay. He has been a regular in the first team upon his arrival in South Wales earlier this summer, and it looks like he is set to maintain that.
