Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie has waxed lyrical over his club teammate Jefferson Montero after his display ensured a victory over Millwall at the weekend.

The midfield playmaker came on with 25 minutes to go in the Championship clash when the Swans were a goal down as well as a man down – Baker-Richardson got sent off in the fifth minute – but he registered assists to Kyle Naughton and McBurnie to make sure that Graham Potter’s side secured all three points in a 2-1 win.

The young ace believes that Montero is set to maintain his form under Potter, and has tipped him to make a fleeting impression at the club.

“Teams in the Championship don’t tend to have players with Jeff’s quality. I don’t think there are many sides in the division who would like to see him warming up with 20 minutes to go,” he told the club’s official website.

“The magic man came on at Millwall and gave me the tap-in at the end which I was very grateful for. The weight of pass for the goal was perfect – the amount of talent he’s got is ridiculous.”

OPINION

Swansea are undoubtedly aiming for promotion back to the Premier League after the first time of asking this season, and they have certainly got an excellent talent on their hands in the shape of Montero. He thoroughly deserves the praise that he is receiving from his teammate, as he has definitely been their star player so far in this campaign. Based on what McBurnie has said, it is clear that Montero is a player capable of turning games on their heads with his remarkable ability. This is just the type of player that they need in their ranks in their promotion bid, as he has demonstrated that he is a match winner. He managed to secure victory for the Swans when they were on the verge of defeat – you cannot really ask more of a player who has this quality. Swansea are lucky to have a talent like him, and they must utilise his impact as much as possible.
