Many Aston Villa fans were left savaging the performance of first team ever present Alan Hutton after his performance against Rotherham on Tuesday evening (18 September).
The Villans saw off the visitors at Villa Park 2-0 thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie, the pair netting on what was both of their home debuts, with the three points pushing Steve Bruce and his men into the play off spots in sixth.
However, the Villa faithful were less than impressed with what they saw for 33-year-old Hutton, who has appeared in every one of the club’s Championship games so far, and turned to Twitter to hammer his display, with many calling him lazy.
This is Futbol has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ tweets:
Jedinak & Hutton have got something on Bruce. Sure of it. #avfc

Jedinak is not a CB. Hutton is not a LB. Kodjia is not a winger.

No, Hutton loses the ball (again) then jogs back (again). Any problems would be solved if Hutton just never plays for #avfc again

Opinion
He might have kept a clean sheet alongside the rest of the back four but the Villa fans are clearly not happy with how the veteran defender performed against Rotherham. As one of the most experienced heads in the side he needs to be showing much more enthusiasm and desire than he currently is in order to inspire those around him to follow his example. The younger, more inexperienced stars will look to him in times of trouble, and if they see a man not putting his all into the game, then they are not going to either. To be fair to the Scottish international, he was shoehorned into a rather unnatural left back position, having usually been used on the other flank, but that is no excuse for a display lacking in energy. The likes of Axel Tuanzebe were left out of the clash and Hutton must be wary that his place in the starting XI is by no means guaranteed, even if he has proven to be a favourite of Bruce so far.
