A section of football fans took to Twitter to lay into Mohamed Salah for his performance in Liverpool’s 3-2 Champions League win again Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Salah played 85 minutes of the Anfield thriller before he was replaced by Xherdan Shaqiri as a late Roberto Firmino secured a much-deserved winner for the hosts.

The 2017-18 Golden Boot winner did not get on the scoresheet in a pulsating game and many supporters of other clubs delighted in that.

COMMENTARY:

You could sense the delight from fans of Liverpool’s rivals on social media that Salah, the sensation of last season who nearly took the underdogs all the way to the Champions League crown in his debut campaign, had extended his goalless run to three matches. The Egyptian was subbed late on after his mistake in giving the ball away was capitalised on by Kylian Mbappe as he scored a barely deserved equaliser for the visitors. It was not Salah’s best game ever, sure, as his touch was a little heavy and some of Liverpool’s moves broke down with the ball at his feet. But no one could question the work ethic of the forward, or his desire to put in the hard yards. Salah kept running and striving, and there was none of the selflishness of his play late on at Wembley on Saturday. He did have the ball in the back of the net once, but was denied by a late referee call. Salah’s time will come again, soon, and expect the goals to rain in at that point.
