Aston Villa conceded an injury time penalty to draw 1-1 with Reading at home on Saturday, and fans have taken to Twitter to destroy striker Jonathan Kodjia for a poor display.

Steve Bruce’s side had taken the lead soon after half-time through Ahmed Elmohamady and looked good for the three points until a rash challenge from James Chester allowed Sam Baldock to level from the spot in the closing moments.

Striker Kodjia put in a poor display by his standards, particularly after his goalscoring exploits last time out, and fans on Twitter have been quick to rip into the 6ft 2in ace [Transfermarkt].

OPINION

These Villa fans are fuming at Kodjia for a poor performance, and the Ivory Coast striker was indeed below par against the Royals. His first half performance wasn’t too bad but it was in the second half where it all fell apart for the front man, and after 70 minutes he looked totally off the pace. That was possibly down to a lack of fitness, and he was eventually hauled off for Neil Taylor, a decision which many of these fans seem to have disagreed with. In truth, Villa should have put this game to bed early on, and it was their attacking line, including Kodjia, who let them down today. While the Villans are still sitting pretty towards the top of the table, this was most definitely two points dropped, and with teams like Leeds playing so well, that could be crucial come the end of the season. A League Cup clash with Burton awaits in midweek before an important league game away at Sheffield United next weekend.
