West Ham have stepped up their signing blitz by opening talks to sign a midfielder as well as offer a deal to free agent forward Bernard, according to a club insider.

Ex-WHU Employee, who is an outstanding source of Hammers news, reported on his personal Twitter account that the Londoners are making more waves in the transfer market after already landing seven senior players this summer.

He explained talks are underway to capture an unnamed midfielder – possibly on loan – and Brazil international Bernard is weighing up an offer to join in what would be a “massive move”.

OPINION

Hammers fans can’t hardly believe the events of the last month or two, in which a blizzard of established stars have put pen to paper on transfers after the club sealed the coup of landing Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager. Signing Bernard, who has 14 Brazil caps and aged 25, to add to their forward ranks would be yet another notable addition following the arrivals of Felipe Anderson, Issa Diop, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and company. The midfielder is unnamed, although the Hammers have been linked with the likes of Inter Milan’s Joao Mario, who impressed on loan at the London Stadium in the second half of last season, and Juventus’ 25-year-old Stefano Sturaro. Both would be more than capable of filling the gap left by the departure of Cheikhou Kouyate, who joined Crystal Palace earlier this week, and provide the cherry on top of the icing of a West Ham transfer cake that has been more appetising than any in recent memory.
