Tottenham fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter at confirmation the club have made a formal move to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
Steve Bruce, manager of the Championship giants, revealed on Friday morning that Spurs have lodged an offer for the playmaker but it is “nowhere near” his club’s asking price.

How much did Levy actually bid?
We are a joke, a shambles in the transfer market— Harry C (@HazSpur92) August 3, 2018
At last! I confirmed story that Spurs are actually in the market to buy a player eventhough it’s Grealish. Spurs nowhere near Villa’s valuation however lol! Daniel loves a bargain ???? #COYS #THFC

I don’t even want Grealish but the way we have conducted our business this window and recent transfer windows has been embarrassing. https://t.co/eCkngDCkLu

Dele and Eriksen have signed new deals ????. We ???? ain’t after Cook and Grealish can be great under Poch. I’m still positive and will remain so till 5pm on August 9th ????

If Jack Grealish is really the height of our ambition #nowords

Grealish wouldn’t improve our squad from last season. There is only so long you can keep talking about building something before players, and Poch, get fed up of being 3rd/4th best every season and go to somewhere that is doing something now. Walker to City is perfect example

COMMENTARY:
It’s that time of the window when deals are in the balance, managers speak with forked tongues and players and their representatives are working behind the scenes to engineer transfers. Certainly, there is no denying Spurs want Grealish and he wants to join. The question is, will Tottenham meet Villa’s asking price by the 9 August cut-off? The likelihood is that the deal will go down to the wire – no surprise when chief negotiator Daniel Levy is involved – and that negotiations will be extensive, but the Londoners will eventually get their man. Levy is banking on Villa’s willingness to sell their prize asset as allowing him to shave a few million off an asking price that has variously been reported at anywhere between £30million and £45million this summer. Don’t expect Tottenham to pay more than £25million for a player who has spent the last two seasons in the Championship and, despite his immense promise, has yet to achieve as much as many would have hoped at this stage of his career.
