Tottenham are deep in talks to sign Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish and are set to lodge a formal offer for him, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim Spurs are set to bid around £20million for the 22-year-old, who has made it clear he wants to make the move to north London.

The Times report Villa are holding for a sum in excess of £20million for their prize asset.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes. Grealish is not proven in the Premier League in the same way as, say, Wilfried Zaha – another key late-window Mauricio Pochettino target – but he has star quality. The Villa academy product came on in leaps and bounds in the final months of last season, when a series of dazzling performances nearly took Steve Bruce’s side back into the Premier League. Technically gifted, mobile and able to carry the ball forward long distances, Grealish is young and has his best years ahead of him. He would offer something different to Pochettino’s team, which does not really have a dribbler. Unless you count Moussa Sissoko. And most Spurs fans don’t.

Likely to happen?

Don’t rule this one out, especially as the clock ticks down to deadline day and Grealish pushes harder to secure what increasingly appears to be a dream transfer for him. Spurs are in clear need of the magic that the rising star can provide, and could up their offers in the coming days.
