Sissoko could rip it up at Wolves

Moussa Sissoko would be a brilliant signing for Wolves ahead of the upcoming season.

The France international might not be a favourite among Tottenham supporters used to Mousa Dembele controlling the midfield and Christian Eriksen landing 60-yard passes on a sixpence.

But he could be the perfect ally for Ruben Neves and company as Wolves look to follow Newcastle by securing a top-10 Premier League finish on their Premier League return after coasting to the Championship title.

What the new boys really need is a midfield driving force with the ability to carry the ball forward and penetrate opponents in the final third.

Sissoko fits that bill perfectly and, crucially, could be available in the next week.

According to information-gathering site Football Whispers, Sissoko is the second most likely player to join Wolves before the transfer window cut-off, behind only Manchester City left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.

A deal would not be a simple on as statistic site Spotrac report he earns £4.2million-a-year, equivalent to £80,000-a-week.

But Wolves have demonstrated huge ambition in the last two years, and could be about to break their transfer record once again by signing Adama Traore from Middlesbrough in a £22million deal.

Sissoko would likely be cheaper than that after two mixed seasons since joining Spurs for £30million from Newcastle in the summer of 2016.

With Mauricio Pochettino looking to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa by Thursday’s transfer cut-off, the future for Sissoko looks bleaker than ever.

The Englishman, 22, would take over the main mantle for ball-carrying and dribbling, leaving the 53-times France international in the shade.

Sissoko turns 29 this month and deserves better than a fringe role at this stage of his career.

A move, either on loan or permanently, to Wolves could work perfectly for all parties.
