West Ham midfielder Edimilson Fernandes is on the verge of joining Fiorentina on a temporary basis, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Serie A club are paying a £900,000 loan fee for the 22-year-old and will have the option to make the deal permanent next summer for £7.7million.

Calcio Mercato claims that this is a “done deal”, however there is yet to be an official announcement from either club.

Fernandes is earning £30,000-a-week (Spotrac) on his deal at the London Stadium and joined the club in 2016 from Swiss club Sion.

Good move for West Ham?

Fernandes’ career at West Ham has never really kicked off.

The Switzerland international has struggled with injuries and his versatility has if anything meant that he has just been used as a squad player when he has been fit.

In total, the former Sion player made just 48 appearances across all competitions in two years playing for the Hammers and cashing in on him is a good idea.

If Fiorentina take up their option to buy Fernandes next year, then it would see the Irons make a decent return on a player that they paid £5.5million for.

Likely to happen?

Calcio Mercato appear to be very confident that this deal has been agreed and as Fernandes is heading to Italy, he is not going to be limited by the 5pm deadline on Thursday.

That means that the Hammers and the player have plenty of time to wrap this deal up and the Italians will not be in a massive rush either.
