Tottenham are reportedly in the hunt to sign Genk enforcer Sander Berge – and a last-ditch deal to sign the Norway international would see Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy hit the jackpot.

According to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, Berge, 20, is wanted by both Spurs and Arsenal before the Premier League transfer window slams shut at 5pm on Thursday.

It is understood that the defensive midfielder’s agent Mike Kjølø is already in the UK and he could wrap up a move to England’s top-flight before the cut-off in just over 24 hours’ time.

Tottenham are yet to sign a player this summer but it should be made a priority to seal a deal for Berge before the deadline as the Norway international represents someone with huge potential and would surely improve Pochettino’s first team squad.

The 6ft 3in (transfermarkt) colossus is just 20-years-old but is already a key player for Genk, having made 45 appearances for them across all competitions since joining in January 2017.

Last season his progress was hampered by injury, but this summer he has returned to fitness and has impressed in Genk’s opening two league games and their Europa League hammering of Fola Esch.

His form has already attracted attention from Sevilla, according to Spanish news outlet Estadio Deportivo.

They claim that the La Liga club has offered £13.5million for Berge, and that is without doubt a fee that Spurs can better.

Levy is extremely tight-fisted, but even he can see that someone of Berge’s potential will be worth at least double that offer within a couple of years and will probably even be a better defensive midfielder than Eric Dier.

It would also help to add to this area of the squad when Mousa Dembele is in the final year of his contract and as reported by the Sun, he has already been the subject of an offer from Inter Milan.

And reports by Bild claim that Victor Wanyama is also a wanted man by Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham’s deeper-lying midfield area is without doubt their weakpoint and any effort to strengthen it with a powerhouse of a player with heaps of potential should be taken seriously.
