A section of Tottenham fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was confirmed that Marcus Edwards has joined Dutch club Excelsior on loan.

Spurs announced via their official Twitter account on Thursday that Edwards, 19, has agreed a temporary exit away from North London and will try to further his development in the Eredivise, which has prompted an array of reactions from supporters on social media.

OPINION

Edwards’ career looks as though it is on a downwards spiral before it has even really started. The 19-year-old attacker has been one of the most highly-rated youngsters at the North London club over the past few years and has even drawn comparisons to Barcelona star Lionel Messi. However his failed loan spell at Norwich last season cast major doubts about his attitude and a move to Excelsior, one of the Eredivisie’s lesser clubs, shows just how hard he has fallen in the last 12 months. These Tottenham fans obviously want to see Edwards succeed and most are calling on him to return to the club a better player than when he left, however the fact that he has gone to Excelsior suggests that not much is every going to happen in terms of a long-term future for him at Tottenham. It is a real shame this, but Edwards probably only has himself to blame.
