A section of Southampton fans have been left fuming on Twitter after it was confirmed that Sam McQueen has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
The Saints announced via their official Twitter account on Thursday afternoon that McQueen, 23, has agreed to join Tony Pulis’ side on a temporary basis, and that prompted a mixed reaction from the south coast club’s supporters on social media.

OPINION
It seems as though these Southampton fans are split over whether it is a good idea to send McQueen out on loan, but surely, given the fact he is so far down the pecking order at St Mary’s, it is a good idea. One fan labelled it as a “joke”, but it really isn’t because McQueen is 23-years-old and needs to be playing regular senior football otherwise his career is going to amount to nothing and all them years of developing him in the academy will prove pointless. McQueen may not be a regular starter for Middlesbrough but he will definitely get more game-time there than at Southampton. McQueen’s ability to play on the wing, and have good defensive abilities, could be the reason that Pulis has gone after him because we all know how much he loves to play defensive-minded players all over the pitch. Hopefully the left-sided flyer returns to the south coast a much better player at the end of the season.
Not really much more progress he can do. Sam > Ronaldo and Messi. I would say that tho as he’s my idol. The player I look up to ???

He’s a loss. Premiership quality. SFC needs a solution to this loss of talent. What is our fine academy for?
