Not many pundits know Celtic better than Chris Sutton – and his latest admission about the reigning champions is bound to music to the ears of many Rangers fans.

The Hoops have not introduced any new faces this summer, with the only business that Brendan Rodgers has done being to sign Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard on permanent deals after successful loans and striking a deal to re-sign Emilio Izaguirre, a year after he left Celtic Park.

As well as the three signings, Celtic have also waved goodbye to some players. Charly Musonda’s loan has been terminated a year early, Erik Sviatchenko has returned to Midtjylland and Stuart Armstrong has sealed a big-money move to Southampton.

None of them players have been replaced and Sutton has claimed admitted that the Bhoys have now opened the door for Rangers to challenge them for silverware.

“Celtic shouldn’t be in a position where they leave even a small opening for Rangers but they are doing with this fall out and [Steven] Gerrard’s impact. Still time to resolve the situation but the squad is weaker than last season,” said the BT Sport pundit on his personal Twitter account on Saturday morning.

Sutton’s scared and this will must mean that a lot of Rangers fans will be excited about their chances of breaking Celtic’s stronghold on the domestic silverware in Scotland.

It would be the biggest achievement in the history of domestic Scottish football if Rodgers was able to win three trebles in a row and Gerrard’s side is realistically the only one who can put a stop to that happening.

Rangers’ hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership are still pretty slim, but if one of the most anti-Gers pundits in the media is willing to admit that there is a potential threat to Celtic, then it’s certainly game on.
