Steven Gerrard has revealed that he may bring in more players before the end of the August transfer window, and confirmed that the red card given to Alfredo Morelos has been rescinded.

Gerrard was talking in the pre-match press conference before the next round of Europa qualifiers – Rangers play Maribor in the first leg of the third round tie.

Rangers confirmed their 11th signing of the summer when they landed Borna Barisic on a permanent deal yesterday, and Gerrard said that he was a player who was on the Rangers radar before they played them in the Europa League.

Gerrard also confirmed that Alfredo Morelos would be available for the weekend after his red card was rescinded.

OPINION

Two bits of good news for Rangers fans in the Gerrard press conference. First, the news that Morelos’ red card has been taken down to a yellow, which means Rangers won’t have to do without their temperamental striker at the weekend. Secondly, Gerrard hinted that there would be even more incomings before the end of the month. Rangers can continue bringing in players until August 31 and might even benefit from the Premier League having to conclude their incoming business on Thursday. It might not have been the perfect start in the Premiership after conceding a late equaliser to Aberdeen, but everything else in the Rangers pre-season has been absolutely spot on. It’s Maribor next and this will be a huge test for Rangers. As Gerrard said, they have Champions League experience and will be a step up from previous opponents. Bringing European football back to Ibrox would be huge and Rangers must ensure they have a lead ready to defend next week. New signing Barisic isn’t eligible to play in the qualifiers but can play in the group stages if Rangers qualify.
