Rangers are looking “closely” at a loan move for Man City centre-back Philippe Sandler, according to a reliable journalist.

Bill Young from RockSports Radio made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Sunday night.

He added that Man City wanted assurances over game-time, however, and that two other clubs were also interested.

This follows on from a tweet he sent that said the deal for striker Kyle Lafferty was all but done, with the player due at Ibrox on Monday or Tuesday for a medical.

OPINION

Steven Gerrard has said that he wants to get two more bodies into Rangers. Talking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Kilmarnock game, he said: “We do feel we’re a bit light up front. We let Josh Windass go to Wigan as everyone knows. He scored a lot of big goals for us last season and we want to replace those goals in the coming weeks. A centre-back too, we’re a bit light at the back.” This would seemingly conclude Rangers’ business for the summer. Lafferty seems like it’s almost done and we’d expect that to be completed in the next 48 hours. Sandler is the new name and while Gerrard wants a centre-back, if City are looking for assurances over game time, this could be problematic. The 21-year-old joined from Dutch side PEC Zwolle this summer for £2.25million but had only played 33 senior games and is definitely one for the future for Pep Guardiola. Would he command a place in the Rangers first-team straight away, with Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson already striking up a solid partnership? He would be great as cover but Man City might want more than that.
