Swansea are in the hunt to sign Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan, according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Swans are “in for” the 20-year-old USA international, while their Championship rivals Ipswich are also eyeing him up.

Carter-Vickers, who is earning £20,000-a-week at Spurs as reported by statistics website Spotrac, spent last season on loan with both Sheffield United and Ipswich.

Good move for Swansea?

Carter-Vickers is nowhere near Mauricio Pochettino’s first team at the minute but that does not mean that he isn’t a bad player.

He did well at Sheffield United in the first half of last season and obviously impressed at Portman Road with Ipswich interested in signing him on a second loan spell.

Across both loan spells last term, the USA international made 34 appearances in the Championship and with Graham Potter having such an inexperienced squad on his hands, it will be good for him to have someone who has a full season of second-tier football under his belt, as well as a few international caps.

Likely to happen?

Ipswich may be in pole position to sign Carter-Vickers because they had him on loan last season – and that could be bad news for Swansea.

The loan window slams shut in just over a week and Potter has limited time to bolster his squad.

A race between his side and Ipswich could see a move drag out until the end of the month, so it is best that he has his eyes on other defensive targets as well.
