Rangers fans haven’t always seen eye-to-eye with the board over transfers, but this summer might have changed that.

Mark Allen and Steven Gerrard have brought 11 players to Ibrox and made significant investment to bring the club on a par with rivals Celtic.

But it’s their stance over the potential sale of Alfredo Morelos that will have fans punching the air with delight.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have rejected a ‘derisory’ £3.75million bid for star striker Alfredo Morelos by French side Bordeaux.

They added that the club have not entered into negotiations over the player, saying the French club can pay £7.5million or forget about the move.

Losing Morelos now would be catastrophic unless Gerrard could bring in a replacement before the end of the summer and £7.5million is the sort of money that could buy a brilliant Premiership attacker.

One criticism that fans have levelled against the Rangers board in the past is selling players for less than their market value. If the DR report is true and Rangers hold firm to what they’re saying, this could be a line in the sand.

Rangers signed Morelos for £1million from Helsinki last summer so £3.75million would represent a significant profit on the player.

A “skint” club would obviously snap Bordeaux’s hands off. £7.5million is an offer that Rangers couldn’t and probably shouldn’t refuse, and fans will be pretty confident that in Allen and Gerrard they’ve got a team that will make good use of the money.

It’s important they stick to their guns though – fans want to see a strong club that won’t sell its best players on the cheap.
