Rangers are preparing a new offer for striker Kyle Lafferty that could seal the deal by Saturday morning, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Light Blues will make a fresh attempt to prise the Northern Ireland international from Tynecastle during talks scheduled for today (Thursday).

The Scottish Sun report Rangers will structure a new bid including cash plus former skipper Lee Wallace in exchange for Lafferty, and are hopeful that an agreement can be reached in the next 48 hours.

OPINION

Rangers are exploring various options to sweeten the Lafferty deal as they look to make him Steven Gerrard’s 12th summer signing of what has been a mass overhaul that began with the Scott Arfield arrival in May. Certainly, offering ex-skipper Lee Wallace as a makeweight in the deal makes sense for the Gers following the captures of two senior full-backs this summer in Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic. Wallace has huge experience on the flank, and has been one of the outstanding players at the club over the last decade, albeit in a generally forgettable era. But injuries and disciplinary issues have cast a cloud over his future and it is hard to see him figuring much under Gerrard this season. With Hearts holding out for £750,000 for Lafferty, Wallace could be the collateral needed to swing the deal Rangers’ way as they appear short of the cash needed to match the asking price.
