Rangers are locked in a late-window battle to hang on to Alfredo Morelos, according to Sky Sports Scotland.

The broadcaster claimed on their twitter account on Scottish deadline day that Dynamo Kiev and Bordeaux are both keen to prise the Colombian striker from Ibrox before the transfer cut-off this evening.

Sky report that Ukranian champions Kiev are ready to rest Rangers’ resolve over the 22-year-old with a £7million bid.

OPINION

Yes, Morelos is immature and selfish. He is also raw and as likely to bang a gilt-edged chance into row z as hammer it into the back of the net. But he is too important to the team, and too much of a matchwinner, to be offloaded today. It is not the right time. The Rangers board have backed Steven Gerrard to the hilt this summer, sanctioning 13 new signings that are likely to increase to 14 before the window shuts. It would be undoing a lot of that impressive work if the club hierarchy sanctioned the exit of Morelos. Certainly, £7million is a major fee for a player signed for around a sixth of that summer from the Finnish league 14 months ago. But the Colombian is the team’s most reliable goalscorer, with six already this season, and too much of a handful for opposition defences to be offloaded. Kyle Lafferty has been signed from Hearts, but he is a totally different type of striker to Morelos, whose game is about movement and mobility. Rangers must keep him.
